#Repost Some facts shared by @see_tutles 🐢 who we are proud to work with!
As part of our effort to conserve ocean sea life, LOCI donates 10% of its profits to grass routes charities on the ground making a difference.
☠️Sea turtles can confuse plastic bags for jellyfish. A turtle can’t tell the difference and will often eat the bag, which gets stuck in their stomach and most likely leads to death without help from humans.
🗑 Adult sea turtles in many places have to crawl through plastic debris on beaches to find a place to nest, and hatchlings can get caught in the debris trying to make their way to the ocean. Tiny bits of plastic in the sand can also adversely affect nests and hatchlings.
🌊 They can get stuck in it while swimming. Many turtles make long migrations and pass through areas with a lot of ocean plastic.
🎈 Mylar balloons filled with helium can also look like jellyfish. These balloons can travel hundreds of miles in the air and make their way into the ocean.
🦀 They can consume microplastic from the food they eat. Tiny bits of plastic consumed by fish or other animals can then be eaten by those who eat them, like turtles (and humans.)
That is why we are so proud to work with charities like @mission_blue, @see_turtles and @bdmlr_uk who are on the ground making a difference.
